Kyna Lenhof for School Board, District 2B. Vote Nov. 3rd!

Kyna Lenhof, candidate for the Chicago Board of Education in District 2B, released the following statement ahead of tomorrow’s vote on CPS CEO Macqueline King’s proposed $9.88 billion budget:

“Tomorrow, the School Board will vote on CPS CEO Macquine King's $9.88B budget which balances the budget without relying on more high-interest loans or property taxes. 

As a former educator, disability advocate, and community leader, I believe every child and family deserves equitable opportunities within Chicago Public Schools. Achieving that goal requires responsible financial leadership that prioritizes students, classrooms, and the long-term fiscal health of our school district.

Our current board member, appointed by Mayor Brandon Johnson, has continually supported high-interest loans that burden taxpayers and weaken CPS’s financial future. CPS already pays $800 million annually in debt service. That is money that should be invested directly in our students and schools.

If I were serving on the Board today, I would vote in support our students and families who deserve a fully funded education system with no political strings attached.”

Kyna Lenhof, candidate for Chicago School Board District 2B representing the neighborhoods of Lincoln Square, Andersonville, Edgewater, Budlong Woods, and Ravenswood, officially submitted the maximum number of petition signatures (1,500) to qualify for the ballot in Chicago’s first elected school board race.

“I am running to ensure that every child in every neighborhood has access to an equitable, high-quality, joyful, and safe school in their community,” said Kyna Lenhof. “As a former Special Education teacher in Chicago Public Schools, I advocated for some of our most vulnerable students in the third-largest school district in the country. As a school board member representing Chicago’s North Side, I will bring that same drive and passion to the board that I brought to the classroom.”

Chicago School Board District 2B includes areas represented by Democratic Committeepersons Paul Rosenfeld of the 47th Ward and Maggie O’Keefe of the 40th Ward. Together, the two wards geography make up more than 50% of the district and support her run.

“Kyna has deep roots in the community as an active volunteer and manages a small business in the heart of the district,” said Paul Rosenfeld, Democratic Committeeperson of the 47th Ward. “She is passionate about serving the more than 310,000 students and families in Chicago Public Schools.”

“I am proud to support Kyna in her campaign for Chicago’s first elected school board as the independent fighter needed to represent the North Side,” said Maggie O’Keefe, Democratic Committeeperson of the 40th Ward. “She is a founding member of the 40th Ward Democrats, a dedicated community organizer, and a great friend. She will be an incredible school board member.”

Kyna Lenhof is a former special education school teacher at Scammon Elementary and in the administration department at Chicago Academy for the Arts. Lenhof is a Manager at a local business in Lincoln Square, an active storyteller, and a marathon runner.
